Updates

Guided by expert setter Simon Parton, this setting clinic will aim to develop new competition setters through mentorship. Hired experienced setters will each be paired with mentee setters. 8-12 competition boulders for the ACA youth training camp will be set over 2 days, with ample time for mentors to break down the process of setting boulders for a competition. After the event, setters are invited to observe the ACA youth nationals training camp and provide insight to athletes on the boulders.

    • Interested in providing mentorship to new competition setters.

    • Compensation: $250/day for April 25, 26, and 27

    • Please send setting resume and optional cover letter to paigeboklaschuk@albertaclimbing.org

  • Mentees (new competition setters):

    • Minimum one year commercial or local competition setting experience with aspirations to set at the provincial and national level.

    • Interest in taking part in a collaborative, mentorship-based setting clinic.

    • This position is unpaid as it is considered a development experience for mentees. However, mentees are encouraged to ask their employer to support their attendance at this event.

TOUR DE BLOC – ACA OPEN COMP

  • View the event page for updated info

Come celebrate the 20th anniversary of the the Tour de Bloc.

Bolder is incredibly psyched to be presenting the Alberta stop of this year’s Tour de Bloc in collaboration with Jackalope and Guru on July 22! Tour de Bloc will be making it’s way across the country from coast to coast, with stops at BoulderHouse in Langford, the one and only Bolder Climbing Community here in Calgary, Up the Bloc in Toronto, and Seven Bays Bouldering in Halifax.

This year, this event will be the first ACA sanctioned event for the 2023/24 session. Anyone who wants to use this comp to collect points towards their aca ranking needs to purchase their 2023/24 aca membership via the aca before July 22

    The first place winners in both men’s and women’s categories will be getting a golden ticket to Jackalope’s finals in Montreal;

Golden ticket – Offered by Arc tery’x

    Flight to Montreal

    VIP airport pick up

    100$ perdiem per day

    3 nights at a hotel

    Registration fees for Jackalope

Get a chance to win a 10 000 cash purse in Montreal’s Jackalope

To sweeten the deal even more, we’ve got $600 cash purse for each of the podiums, so bring your A-game.

Our Tour de Bloc will be for open competitors only, however we’re doubling up on July 22nd with our very own scramble competition. This will be will be on the same set of boulders as Tour de Bloc, plus extra problems and will take place after the qualifier round.

Spectators are welcome all day; we’ll have drinks, food, prizes, and of course a show you won’t want to miss! After finals wrap up, we want to keep the night going and celebrate; stay tuned for the location of the official after party!

    Format

This is a one-day competition with a modified qualifier scramble round, 8 problems and world cup finals.

Tour de Bloc’s registration will be for the Open categories only, however we’ll be doubling this day up with our full scramble citizen competition so if you’re looking to compete more casually or in the beginner/intermediate categories you can register for that instead!

Registration is $60 per participant for TdB and $40 for Citizen comp
